Neurophysiotherapy Service

You will already have received notification regarding the cancellation of outpatient appointments to allow the Health Board to prioritise managing the Corona virus situation.  These are unprecedented times for all of us and while neuro-outpatient services are suspended, we still want to support you as well as we can.

  • Many of you may already have made a plan with your physiotherapist, and have advice, activities and exercises to continue with independently
  • Your physiotherapist may have identified that a ‘virtual’ consultation is necessary and that may be via telephone or skype
  • We have set up a dedicated ‘phone-in’ service where an experienced neurophysiotherapist will be available to discuss questions you may have.  This will be every Tuesday from 9.00am - 11.30am - Telephone 01873 732310
  • Remember that we already had in place a ‘self re-referral process’ in Neurophysiotherapy.  If your physiotherapist did not think it necessary to review you virtually or if you have questions or concerns once services resume, you can then contact us to discuss those in the normal way.  The usual routes for referral will also become available again
As the information we are all receiving evolves, the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board website is a good resource - https://abuhb.nhs.wales/

In the meantime…

The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy https://www.csp.org.uk/ has excellent resources including exercise videos and leaflets, use the ‘public and patient’ tab from the home screen:

There are many ‘mainstream’ sources of information about staying as active as you safely can, even if you are staying at home, such as the BBC, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51933762 the ‘Green Goddess’ is apparently doing an exercise slot on Breakfast TV again!

The NHS website also has lots of ideas and updated information which may be useful:

Looking after our psychological wellbeing is also crucial, and there are many relaxation and mindfulness resources and Apps which can help with this such as the Phone App Calm and Headspace.

Further resources:

  • Radio 5 Live '10 Today' exercise routines by video or radio
  • Parkinson's UK - exercise programmes
  • MS Society - exercise programmes
To stay up to date with current advice and guidelines we suggest the NHS website:
