The Carers Strategies Measure (Wales) allows for a statutory responsibility to be placed on health boards and local authorities to prepare, publish and implement, in partnership, an Information and Consultation Strategy which states:
-
How they are going to ensure that Carers receive appropriate information, support and advice
-
How they will actively engage with and involve Carers when making decisions about the provision of services
-
How they will consult with carers about the planning, commissioning and delivery of local services that affect Carers or the people they look after.
-
How partnerships will be made with other key groups such as housing/education/third sector/private sector
Social Services are part of your local council and provide a range of services to carers and people with disabilities. They should be one of your first contacts, as it is important they know about the person you're caring for. As a carer, you are entitled to a carer's assessment, which looks at your needs and how you, as a carer, can be supported.
