The Adult Weight Management Service is a dedicated service that offers support and advice to people wanting to lose weight in a healthy way.
We can help you to improve your health and wellbeing as well as support you to maintain the weight you lose. By losing weight you can improve your health, emotional well being and decrease the risk of diabetes and heart disease.
Losing weight is different for each individual but you don’t have to go it alone. When the time is right for you, there are a number of health professionals, which include Dietitians, Dietetic Support Workers, a Clinical Psychologist, Counsellor, Consultant and Nurse, to help you make manageable lifelong changes in a way which is most suitable for you.
Adults who are able to commit to regular appointments or group sessions. Your body mass index (BMI) must be 30 or over. Your GP can work this out or you can go online to the NHS Choices website to access a BMI healthy weight calculator.
You will be individually assessed at an initial consultation clinic with a Dietitian. This is mostly an information gathering session to find what option will suit you best in terms of support with losing weight. You will then be provided with suitable options and make a joint decision as to which service would suit you best.

Before you agree to be referred to the Adult Weight Management Service consider whether now is the right time for you. This may be discussed in more detail at your first appointment.
If you would like to be referred to the Adult Weight Management Service, you can ask any health care professional; this includes your GP, Practice Nurse or Consultant. You will then be sent a letter inviting you to contact us to arrange an initial appointment.
