Where Will My Baby Be Born

We are proud to offer a variety of options of place of birth. Options include:
  • Home birth
  • Free standing midwifery led area at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr (Ystrad Mynach)
  • Free standing midwifery led birthing pod at Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan (Ebbw Vale)
  • Free standing midwifery led birthing area at Nevill Hall Hospital (Abergavenny)
  • Free standing midwifery led birthing area at the Royal Gwent Hospital (Newport)
  • Consultant led birthing area at The Grange University Hospital (Cwmbran)
  • Alongside Midwifery Led Unit at The Grange University Hospital (Cwmbran)
Unfortunately due to the coronavirus pandemic our freestanding midwifery led birth centres are closed until the 4th of January 2021. Please see our maternity services Facebook page for updates. All four place of birth options remain available.

We recommend you read this birth place decisions leaflet, view our virtual tours, and talk to your midwife about your maternity care and what option suits your individual needs and wishes.

To help with your decision making, we have published two books full of real birth stories from ladies who have given birth within Aneurin Bevan University Health Board maternity services. The stories aim to give women confidence in their bodies in relation to birth, and are full of ‘pearls of wisdom’ that can help you to have a positive birth experience wherever you choose to birth.

Your Birth: stories from midwifery led areas and Your Birth: stories from consultant led areas by Emma Mills and Louise Taylor are both available on Amazon. All royalties go directly back into ABUHB maternity services to improve the birthing environments, to offer staff additional training in services such as yoga and aquanatal, and for staff development.

You can view virtual tours on the Aneurin Bevan University Health Board Facebook page.
