Clinical Psychology Services in Physical Health Settings

The Physical Health Psychology Service in St Woolos Hospital, Newport, works with people with physical health conditions to support them in adjusting and coping with illness or injuries.

The service aims to reduce the impact that illness, injury, or treatment can have on people’s lives, whilst also improving their quality of life. We offer advice, signposting, assessment and psychological interventions for people living with a wide variety of conditions.

We offer psychological support for difficulties related to a person’s health condition, such as: 

  • Difficulty adjusting to a medical condition, injury or chronic pain
  • Depression and feelings of loss
  • Managing anxiety, feelings of panic or uncertainty
  • Changes in motivation, or struggling with not being able to do things you usually do
  • Family and/or relationship difficulties
  • Difficulty putting strategies into place for self-care or managing your health condition
  • Understanding and managing difficult experiences or memories associated with your health condition
