More About the Service

The new Stay Well at Home - Gwent E-TEC Service is being tested by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board in partnership with smart home monitoring provider, HOWZ. Its main aim is to help people stay safe and well in their homes and reduce the need for hospital admission or attendance. The service is being offered from January 2023 both to people with dementia, and to their carers, who live in the Borough of Blaenau Gwent.

The new service is based on an award-winning system, known as HOWZ. The technology analyses data collected by digital devices placed in a person’s home to monitor physical health, such as temperature.  The devices can also identify significant changes in behaviour, such as reduced movement in the home that might signal a person is becoming unwell or has potentially fallen. If a problem is identified, an alert is flagged which is then followed up by the HOWZ Support Team who will ensure a person receives the necessary support and guidance. The HOWZ Support Team is contactable from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.
