As a result of sustained pressure and risk throughout the hospital system over the last week, we have declared a Critical Incident this afternoon.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is undertaking a public engagement survey to better understand experiences of PMS and PMDD locally. The survey will explore how symptoms affect daily life, interactions with healthcare services, and where improvements in care pathways are needed.

For most children, chickenpox is a mild illness that gets better on its own, but for some, it can be very serious. The risk of serious illness from chickenpox is much higher than people used to think. Some people may need to be treated in hospital if they get problems from the infection.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has reintroduced mask wearing and tightened visiting rules across its hospital sites following a sharp rise in winter illnesses and infection rates.

Back in October 2025, due to increasing levels of illness in our hospitals we needed to introduce mask wearing and visiting restrictions. We then stepped down these restrictions when illness levels decreased, but now another rise in infections means we need to reintroduce measures to keep people safe.

On Saturday 20th December, the Children's Ward at The Grange University Hospital was transformed into a galaxy far, far away thanks to the incredible Imperial Welsh Squad Saber Guild – Naboo Temple and the amazing Fit For Your Princess volunteers!

"Vaccines are one of the greatest achievements in public health - they protect our communities from serious illness and, in many cases, save lives. Yet, in recent years we have seen a decline in vaccination uptake - and we need to understand why.

We are delighted to share that Phase 1 of the Emergency Department (ED) extension at The Grange University Hospital has officially opened today (Wednesday 17th December 2025).

Winter often brings an increase in common illnesses such as coughs, colds, sore throats, sinus problems, and dry skin. Instead of waiting for a GP appointment or visiting A&E, your local pharmacy can provide timely support through the Common Ailments Service. 

Please note that all GP surgeries and the majority of community pharmacies will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
