Due to a ‘concerning’ rise in COVID-19 cases in the Gwent area, the Health Board is writing an open letter to residents of Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport and Torfaen. The letter asks residents to follow the new level 4 restrictions and minimise the number of people that they see over the festive season to help slow the spread of the virus.

There will be changes to the collection of patient sharps boxes and clinical waste bags over the Christmas period

We are delighted to be working in partnership with Torfaen Leisure Trust, who have been really supportive in helping us set up the first Mass Vaccination Centre in Gwent, which has enabled us to successfully roll-out the first doses of the Covid vaccine.

A successful initiative by Sutton Clinical Commissioning Group to make the admission into hospital more efficient is being launched today in Monmouthshire.

Please note that due to high levels of staff sickness, the Midwife-led birth centres at the Royal Gwent and Nevill Hall Hospitals will close temporarily from today (17th December 2020) until 4th January 2021.

From Monday 14th December we will be making changes to some of our services. This decision has not been made lightly, however, the increasing transmission of COVID-19 within our communities, together with the usual winter demand on our emergency care is having a significant impact on our ability to provide normal services.

The day has finally arrived as Gwent starts on its road to recovery. Wales was the first country in the world to receive supplies of the vaccine last week, and today a huge team of healthcare professionals have become one of the first to start vaccinating the Gwent population, protecting people against coronavirus.

Patients who have been newly referred to a specialty this year and who are on an outpatient waiting list may receive a text message from the Health Board as follows:

Monday 7th December

Today, Monday 7^th December, we as a Health Board are supporting the #maegenihawl Welsh Language Rights Day, where we are promoting some of the Welsh language services that we offer to our patients and staff as part of their Welsh Language Rights.

There are a number of NHS staff who have experienced the devastating effects of Covid-19. For example, some have contracted the virus and needed mechanical ventilation, some have been unable to visit relatives in hospital and some staff have lost family members, not being with them when they were dying, as visiting restrictions at that time did not allow it.

The Outpatient Referral & Booking Centre have made temporary changes to their opening hours.  With immediate effect we will be closed on Saturdays, however will continue to be available Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm.

The Emergency Department remains very busy at The Grange University Hospital in Cwmbran.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is opening a number of mobile COVID-19 testing units across Torfaen.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is extending the opening of its mobile COVID-19 testing units in Blaenau Gwent.

Following the COVID-19 outbreak, a decision was made on patient safety grounds in March this year to relocate the haematology service from the Royal Gwent and Nevill Hall hospitals to Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, Ystrad Mynach. 

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is opening a temporary COVID-19 testing unit in Rhymney, Caerphilly, from Tuesday 24 November.

A yellow rain warning has been issued for Wales for Thursday 29th into Friday 30th. It’s also possible that this warning may be raised to an Amber warning over the next few days

If you have Covid-19 symptoms, however  mild, do not attend your appointment.

We are treating an increasing number of patients with COVID-19 in our hospitals. Our Emergency Departments at Nevill Hall Hospital and the Royal Gwent Hospital are under significant pressure with the number of patients attending, both with COVID and non COVID.

We have received reports from members of the public about delays receiving their result after a COVID-19 test.

A temporary mobile testing unit at the Old Mill Car Park, Trosnant, Pontypool, NP4 8AT, has opened on Wednesday 30th September.

This new mobile unit has been opened in response to a rising rate of Coronavirus cases, and will provide a ‘walk up’ testing service to residents of Torfaen, by appointment only.

We are pleased to advise that the phone lines into the Health Records Department have now been restored.

Due to local lockdown restrictions in Blaenau Gwent, Newport and Caerphilly Boroughs, Gwent Police have announced that they will be using road checks to help enforce lockdown measures.

Public Health Wales is urging all eligible people in Wales to have their free flu vaccine as NHS Wales begins its largest ever national flu vaccine programme.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has announced the opening of a new testing centre in New Tredegar in Caerphilly Borough.

This new mobile unit will provide a testing service to residents in the north of Caerphilly Borough. It is located at the car park, New Tredegar Business Park, White Rose Way, NP24 6BH and you must book an appointment to attend for a test.
