07/20/2021 JCVI issues advice on COVID-19 vaccination of children and young people

Following the recent announcement and recommendations from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisations regarding the approval of the COVID-19 vaccination of those aged between 12 and 17 years, who are at higher risk from COVID-19 and all those within twelve weeks of turning 18 years old will now be eligible to receive the vaccine.

We have carefully considered our approach to Hospital Visiting and following a pilot in Nevill Hall Hospital, we have now extended visiting to more hospitals including The Grange University Hospital, Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan, The Royal Gwent Hospital and Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, together with continued visiting at Nevill Hall Hospital.

Cindy Sulit, a much loved Nurse at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board, has this week returned to her role in the Emergency Department almost a year after she became critically ill with Covid-19.

After contracting Covid-19, Cindy’s condition deteriorated rapidly and she was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit and put on a ventilator for over three weeks.

Across our Health Board we have now vaccinated a total of 25,877 people.

Residents from 72 of the 95 care homes for older adults within the health board area have been offered the vaccination, with staff in 90% of our older adult care homes being offered the vaccine. We have vaccinated 7,777 80 years and over and 6,500+ frontline health staff.

A temporary mobile testing unit at the Old Mill Car Park, Trosnant, Pontypool, NP4 8AT, has opened on Wednesday 30th September.

This new mobile unit has been opened in response to a rising rate of Coronavirus cases, and will provide a ‘walk up’ testing service to residents of Torfaen, by appointment only.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has announced the opening of a new testing centre in New Tredegar in Caerphilly Borough.

This new mobile unit will provide a testing service to residents in the north of Caerphilly Borough. It is located at the car park, New Tredegar Business Park, White Rose Way, NP24 6BH and you must book an appointment to attend for a test.

Hospitals in Wales are to benefit from a new high-tech digital-monitoring system for seriously ill people in Intensive Care Units. 

The new Grange University Hospital in Llanfrechfa, which is scheduled for early opening in November 2020, will be the first to adopt the new system in summer 2021. Planned roll out will then follow to all NHS Wales Intensive Care Units.

07/30/2020 IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Changes to isolation period for Covid-19 - Updated 30 July 2020

From 30 July, people who have tested positive for coronavirus will have to self-isolate for 10 days instead of 7 days. The 10 day period starts from the day symptoms start, or if asymptomatic from the day a test is taken.  As before a test should be arranged within 5 days of symptoms starting. This will also apply to health and social care workers.
