Professor Tracy Daszkiewicz begins term as President of the Faculty of Public Health alongside her current role.
The Health Board is proud to announce that Professor Tracy Daszkiewicz, Executive Director of Public Health and Strategic Partnerships in Gwent, has officially begun her three-year term as President of the Faculty of Public Health (FPH).
Professor Daszkiewicz takes on this prominent national role while continuing to serve the communities of Gwent as Director of Public Health, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to improving population health in Gwent, UK and internationally.
Having served as Vice-President of the Faculty since 2022, Professor Daszkiewicz brings extensive cross-sector experience to the presidency. Her leadership has spanned the NHS, civil service, local government, and voluntary sector, making her a respected voice on tackling health inequalities and improving public health outcomes.
Commenting on her appointment, Professor Daszkiewicz said:
“I am deeply grateful and privileged to take up the role of President of the Faculty of Public Health, and am honoured by the trust and confidence Faculty members have placed in me.
“I step into this role at a challenging time for public health. Across the four nations of the UK and beyond, we are confronting increasingly complex and interconnected issues including persistent and widening health inequalities, an ever-deepening climate crisis, global conflict, racism, declining public mental health, and a rising tide of non-communicable disease.
“We must strive to ensure that every individual, regardless of their background or circumstances, has access to the resources they need to live healthy, fulfilling lives.
“And our commitment to fairness must extend to our dedicated public health workforce. Ensuring that our public health family are equipped, supported, and valued is essential for achieving our shared goals. That means championing workforce wellbeing, advocating for parity of esteem, and ensuring we have a thriving, diverse, and properly supported workforce, one that is equipped to meet today’s needs and prepared for the big public health challenges of the future.
“Over the next three years, I look forward to working alongside Faculty members to deliver our shared priorities—strengthening the public health workforce and system, advocating for sound public health policy, and supporting work to tackle the root causes of health inequalities with and across all sectors.”
“At the same time, I remain deeply committed to our ongoing and vital work in Gwent to reduce inequalities and improve health outcomes for our communities.
The Health Board congratulates Professor Daszkiewicz on this well-deserved appointment and looks forward to the continued impact of her leadership both within Gwent and across the wider public health community.
