Patients, staff and visitors at the Royal Gwent Hospital were treated to an early St David’s Day visit on Friday from pupils at local primary school, Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Gwenlli.
To celebrate their welsh heritage and get into the spirit of St David’s Day, pupils from the school’s ‘Dreigiau Cymreictod’ (Welsh Dragons) and school council visited the hospital in welsh costumes and handed out daffodils.
Diolch yn fawr to Ysgol Gymraeg Nant Gwenlli for spreading joy across our hospital!
Meet Rhys, a proud Welshman working and living in Wales, using his Welsh language skills daily with his patients.
Rhys has worked as a Physiotherapist at the Royal Gwent Hospital since graduating from Cardiff University two years ago. As a physiotherapist on the hospital’s surgical wards, Rhys helps patients achieve their rehabilitation goals after surgery to help them return home and live independently.
“My favourite part of my work is the rewarding feeling of helping a patient reach their main goals, and offering a solution to their situation.” said Rhys.
“The Welsh Offer badge helps me to connect with others who want to communicate in Welsh. Some patients feel more comfortable speaking Welsh, and are more open with me about their situation because they are able to describe their feelings in their chosen language.
“It's important for me to use Welsh in my work because it's my first language. I am passionate about giving patients the right and ability to express their feelings and concerns in their chosen language.”
