Covid Vaccination Update

We are delighted with the news this morning that the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has now been approved for use. As a Health Board we have made good progress on our vaccination programme since it began on the 8th December and this new vaccine will help us accelerate our vaccination programme.

As a Health Board, we will use a combination of Mass Vaccination Centres, Mobile Units to take the vaccine out to people who are unable to get to a centre like those who live in care homes and similar settings and through Primary Care General Practice.

To protect the most vulnerable people in our communities, certain groups of people have been prioritised to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. We are following the Joint Committee of Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) priority groups which are firstly:

  • Care home residents and staff
  • Over 80s and front line Health and Social Care Staff

We are working to vaccinate people as quick and safely as we possibly can within the priority groups based on the supply of vaccine we have available to us.

If you are over 80 or have a family member that is over 80 please be assured that we will be making contact very shortly by letter to arrange a vaccination.  In the next few weeks as information emerges about supply, and appointments become available at shorter notice, we may also telephone individuals. As you will appreciate our staff are working incredibly hard to ensure we vaccinate as many people as quickly as possible. If you are not in a priority group, please wait to be invited.

Please do not contact your GP Practice or Pharmacy as they will not be able to help you book an appointment.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continuing support and to ask for your patience and understanding as we move forward with the vaccination programme.
