Dr Inder Singh Awarded OBE for Services to Bone Health Care in Wales

We are delighted to announce that Dr Inderpal Singh, an inspirational Gwent Geriatrician, has been awarded an OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours list in recognition of his services to osteoporosis care in Wales.

As the National Clinical Lead for Bone Health in Wales, Dr Singh is extremely passionate about falls prevention, frailty and osteoporosis care, and has worked tirelessly with colleagues across NHS Wales to strengthen care for older people.

As part of his work to improve bone health, Dr Singh has led the development of the Fracture Liaison Service model in Gwent, which aims to identify patients at risk of multiple fragility fractures. Dr Singh credits the collaborative work of our partners, including the Bevan Commission, the British Geriatrics Society, the Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit Programme, and our colleagues in the third sector, for helping to achieve a universal Fracture Liaison Service mandate across Wales.

Dr Singh said:

“I am deeply humbled and truly honoured to receive this recognition. When I received the letter, I was overwhelmed with emotion, my eyes quietly welled up, and my heart was filled with immense gratitude.

“I feel incredibly proud to be part of Aneurin Bevan University Health Board and for the support received to enhance our Fracture Liaison Service. This recognition reflects the collective effort, commitment, and compassion of clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals, managers, and support staff across Wales.

“I would like to pay special tribute to our Welsh Fracture Liaison Service and Bone Health teams. Their passion and perseverance continue to make a real and lasting difference to patient care. I am also deeply grateful to the Royal Osteoporosis Society for its outstanding leadership, advocacy, and evidence-based approach, which have been instrumental in advancing osteoporosis care nationally.

“Above all, I wish to thank my family - my wife, Manmeet, my daughter, Reetika, and my son, Keerat. Their love, patience, and understanding, especially during long evenings and demanding periods of work, have made this journey possible.

“This honour strengthens my resolve to continue striving for high-quality, equitable care for our ageing population, and to support the dedicated workforce who deliver it every day.”
