We are proud to announce that the Health Board has recently been awarded the RNIB Visibly Better Employer Quality Standard, being the first NHS trust in the UK and first Health Board in Wales to achieve the standard.
The RNIB's "Visibly Better Employer" quality standard is a benchmark for organizations to become truly inclusive for blind and partially sighted people, ensuring accessible recruitment processes, supportive workplace adjustments (like tech), equal career opportunities, and staff awareness of sight loss, helping companies attract and retain talent with vision impairment by removing barriers and proving their commitment to diversity.

As part of their journey to achieving the standard, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has introduced impressive in-person sight loss awareness training, available to all staff involved in supporting patients with sight loss—ensuring inclusive, empathetic care rooted in understanding.
It was especially inspiring to receive a first-hand account from an employee with sight loss, sharing their journey from gaining employment, to being supported, encouraged, and progressing in their career.
