We are pleased to share that Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) is moving towards more efficient and sustainable communication methods by introducing digital letters and enhanced text message reminders through our Patient Portal.
Patients will soon begin receiving some hospital letters digitally rather than by post. This will allow faster and more convenient access to important information about appointments and hospital care.
Patients will receive a text message from ‘ABUHB NHS’, containing a secure link to view their digital letter through the Patient Portal. The text message will include a unique PIN and instructions for accessing the letter.
We’ve also improved our appointment reminder service. Patients will now receive reminder texts from ‘ABUHB NHS’ seven days before their appointment, with options to rebook or cancel directly for selected services.
Messages will be sent in both English and Welsh. Patients can choose their preferred language by contacting the number on their letter or informing staff during their appointment.
If a digital letter is not opened within 24 hours, a paper copy will automatically be sent by post. Patients who have opted out of digital communications or whose mobile numbers are not on record will continue to receive printed letters as usual.
When opening their first digital letter, patients will have the option to create a secure username and password. Registering allows ongoing access to all letters and appointments in one place via ABUHB.nhsportal.net.
If patients choose not to register, they can still access letters for up to 10 days after the appointment date or after receiving the message, using their date of birth and unique PIN.
The portal offers a range of useful features, including:
The Patient Portal is fully secure and encrypted, ensuring patient confidentiality at every stage.
Patients who prefer to receive letters by post can opt out of text message communications at any time by informing our booking teams.
