Maternity Services over the Bank Holiday Weekend

We are expecting a high number of births over the Bank Holiday weekend and we are currently experiencing staff shortages across a number of our hospitals. To ensure the safety of our mothers and babies we are temporarily closing our midwife-led birth areas at the Royal Gwent Hospital, Nevill Hall Hospital and Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan to help us locate our specialist staff across two hospitals.

We will continue to support home births, midwife-led births at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr and births at the alongside birth centre and obstetric unit at The Grange University Hospital.

If you are due to have your baby this weekend and need to contact a midwife you can continue to call the numbers provided to you on your handheld records.

This arrangement will be in place from 17:00 on 26th August 2021 until 08:00 on 31st August 2021. All sites will be open as usual on 31st August 2021.
