Meet Felix, Ward Clerk in the Transfer Lounge at The Grange University Hospital. You may have seen Felix if you have been discharged via the Transfer Lounge.  

As a Ward Clerk supporting the transplant service, they help coordinate patient discharges, arrange transport and work with teams across the hospital to make sure patients can get home as quickly and safely as possible. 

The team’s role is a busy one and Felix in particular speaks with ward teams and transport providers to review admissions and discharge information, helping patients move and finding solutions when challenges arise. They also use data to help understand demand and identify opportunities to improve services. 

Felix said: "We’re always busy. At the same time, it's very rewarding. There are some aspects where I go beyond my job title, and that can be the biggest joy to be honest." 

As a neurodivergent member of staff, they see their attention to detail and problem-solving skills as valuable tools in helping the service run effectively and credits the team for creating a supportive working environment for them to thrive within. 

At the heart of everything they do is a desire to help patients leave hospital as soon as they are ready.  

Felix continued: "What I'm most passionate about is getting people home so they don't have to stay another night in hospital. We try everything to get people home and, when it works, it's really satisfying."
