Mental Health Support Workers Shortlisted for National RCN Nursing Award

Wednesday 29th June 2022

A huge congratulations to Specialist Support Workers, Kevin Hale and Dorian Wood, who have been nominated for a prestigious national RCN Nursing Award in the Nursing Support Award category!

Kevin and Dorian have been nominated for their work in reducing loneliness, promoting social inclusion, and improving the physical health of people with serious mental health difficulties, following the development of their Recovery Through Sport programme.

Initiatives at their all-inclusive male and female Recovery Through Sport model include a football group and a walking rugby group, as well as 1-1 and group gym work. These sessions are attended by patients with highly complex needs from a range of settings, including forensic patients, patients under community teams, inpatients, and those cared for in the private sector.

To ensure full inclusion, Kevin and Dorian have opened up their group to older adult and learning disability teams. They have also secured donated kits from Abergavenny Town F.C.

Kevin and Dorian have reached the final 5 in their award category out of 520 nominees, with the awards ceremony set to take place in Thursday 6th October 2022.

Wishing them the best of luck at the awards ceremony!
