Spotting the Signs of Skin Cancer: Education Event for Hairdressers, Barbers and Beauty Professionals in Gwent

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board recently held a second skin cancer education event for local hairdressers, barbers and beauty professionals - bringing together members of the hair and beauty community to learn more about the vital role they can play in spotting the early signs of skin cancer.

Professionals from across Gwent attended the session to deepen their understanding of skin cancer prevention, early detection, and how to support clients who may need a health check-up. Throughout the event, attendees took part in activities and open discussions, asking questions and sharing experiences from their work.

Led by our experienced Skin Cancer Nurse Specialists and Clinical Psychologists, the session explored:

  • How to recognise common signs and symptoms of skin cancer
  • How to approach sensitive conversations with clients
  • When and where to signpost individuals for further advice or assessment

Each attendee also received a skin cancer prevention goody bag packed with educational resources to share with colleagues, along with a certificate to acknowledge their participation in the training.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended the event, and an even bigger thank you to our fantastic skin cancer team for delivering another informative, engaging and impactful event.

Together, we’re helping more people in our communities stay informed, stay safe, and spot early signs of skin cancer.
