To mark World Suicide Prevention Day 2024, we are delighted to announce that funding has been secured to support the ongoing provision of crucial specialist support services for those affected by suicide. This support will be provided by the Jacob Abraham Foundation, a local charity already known for its excellent service in Gwent.
Tracy Daszkiewicz, Executive Director for Public Health in Gwent added:
“The impact of suicide is far-reaching and we are committed to providing a service for anyone in Gwent affected by a suicide.
Specialist bereavement support services are crucial in helping people navigate the complex and deep grief that follows such a tragic loss.
Since 2020, people who live in our Health Board area have had immediate and free access to this essential support, regardless of when the death occurred.
Thank you to both the Jacob Abraham Foundation and 2wish for their invaluable services. We encourage anyone affected by a suicide to seek support from these organisations.”
The Jacob Abraham Foundation will continue offering their invaluable services to individuals affected by suicide of someone aged 26 and over. Additionally, similar support is available from another Welsh charity, 2wish, for those impacted by the sudden death of a child or young person aged 25 and under.
Bryn, a therapist from The Jacob Abraham foundation had this to say about the suicide bereavement services the foundation they provide to Gwent residents:
