“My daughter Skyla was a happy, kind-hearted little girl with lots of friends – she was our world. Skyla was just four years old when she died from sepsis.
It was sudden.
It was devastating.
It was preventable.
"Skyla had signs of sepsis – a very high temperature, lethargy, leg and abdominal pain, and a mottled rash.
But they were missed.
"No family should ever have to go through this pain. That’s why I’m sharing Skyla’s story – so no other parent has to ask ‘what if?’
Today, on World Sepsis Day, we reflect.
We remember those we’ve lost.
The families left behind.
And the survivors living with the long-term effects of sepsis.
But we also look forward.
Because by sharing the message, by knowing the signs, we can make a difference.
Please learn the signs:
Slurred speech or confusion
Extreme shivering or muscle pain
Passing no urine (in a day)
Severe breathlessness
It feels like you’re going to die
Skin mottled or discoloured
Speak up and trust your instincts.
Whether you’re a parent, a loved one, or a healthcare professional – your actions can make all the difference.
Sepsis moves fast. Spotting the signs early can save a life.
Skyla’s life mattered.
By sharing her story, we hope to protect others.”
