Join us in cheering on Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr Chef, Ceriann Robbins, on her first full marathon in Manchester on Sunday!

This is not her first run as she has already proudly completed the Swansea Half Marathon and Cardiff Half Marathon.

As an ex-smoker, Ceriann decided to make a change to her lifestyle by pursuing the challenge of Couch to 5K in 2019. She also made positive changes to her diet and became more aware of what she eats. Over lockdown, she trained on her own and then got back to her training club soon after - completing 5K, and then 10K runs.

Starting off as a Catering Assistant and now a qualified Chef at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr, she receives a great level of support and encouragement in what she does from her colleagues.

“We’re like a family unit and I get so much encouragement from my colleagues to do this” said Ceriann.

She has also previously mentored other new runners and encourages those thinking about starting.

“You don’t need to be an athlete. Anyone can start exercising and enjoy it. Take one step at a time and keep going. It makes you feel great.” Ceriann continued.

Often running 6-11 miles before her work shift starts, there is no doubt that Ceriann will do great in the Manchester Marathon.

Ceriann is raising funds towards additional amenities for the new Centre of Excellence for Breast Care Services at Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr. This is to ensure that breast care patients are provided with a sensitive environment where they can feel comfortable and dignified. It will be an area where patients and their families can come to terms with their diagnosis and treatment.
