The primary aim of the national COVID-19 vaccination programme remains the prevention of severe illness (hospitalisations and deaths) arising from COVID-19. As currently available COVID-19 vaccines provide limited protection against mild and asymptomatic disease, the focus of the programme is on offering vaccination to those most likely to directly benefit from vaccination, particularly those with underlying health conditions that increase their risk of hospitalisation following infection. For autumn 2024, JCVI advises that a COVID-19 vaccine should be offered to:
This year JVCI guidance has not recommended that Frontline Health and Social Care Staff have a Covid-19 Autumn Booster , however, should any Frontline Health and Social Care wish to have added protection this Winter they can request an Autumn Booster vaccine by going to one of our Health Board vaccination clinics and requesting a vaccine, or they can call the booking centre, 0300 303 1373.
Just like in previous years, we will be starting our Autumn Booster vaccinations in care homes across Gwent. We will then invite all other eligible patients to receive their vaccination at either their GP Practice, Local Pharmacy or nearest community vaccination clinic - a list of Community Vaccination Clinics will be available here shortly.
Covid vaccinations will start on 1st October 2024. You may have already received an appointment via your GP Practice. Appointment letters will be sent to all eligible patients by 31st October 2024.
Should you wish to contact our vaccination booking team you can do so by calling 0300 303 1373 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday or by emailing: abb.vsbc@wales.nhs.uk
If you wish to cancel and/or reschedule your appointment you can do this by completing our online form.
