Medical equipment donated to Ukraine

Tredegar Health Centre will soon be moving into their new home at The Bevan Health & Wellbeing Centre. As part of the decommissioning process in readiness for the move, Tredegar Health Centre has gone above and beyond to help others. Unused office furniture has been donated to other teams and departments across the health board, lots of items have been donated to charity shops recycling centres and they have also been able to help the Welsh Aid for Ukraine (WAFU).

In August 2023, supporters of WAFU collected items from the health centre, including medical equipment, medical supplies, a consulting couch and a fridge and have been driven to Ukraine and used within 3 hours of the equipment arriving. The items have been used in hospitals and GP Practices to help with surgeries since the war started.

Theresa Long, Welsh Aid for Ukraine comments:

“WAFU is a group of doctors, nurses and community volunteers that have been working together to support those devastated by the war in Ukraine. Raising funds to purchase decommissioned ambulances, transport them and donated aid, to Ukraine.

We greatly appreciate the generous donation of essential medical equipment from Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The donation has been vital in supporting Ukraine and their people during the war. With thousands of life changing blast injuries, including many thousand amputees the equipment has facilitated a significant increase in the ability to perform the surgery and rehabilitation so badly needed.

To the Hospitals, surgeries and community health departments, who have been amazing in making a difference to those suffering and above all else, helping to save lives, we thank you.”
