The primary aim of the national COVID-19 vaccination programme remains the prevention of severe illness (hospitalisations and deaths) arising from COVID-19. As currently available COVID-19 vaccines provide limited protection against mild and asymptomatic disease, the focus of the programme is on offering vaccination to those most likely to directly benefit from vaccination, particularly those with underlying health conditions that increase their risk of hospitalisation following infection.

This year JVCI guidance has not recommended that Frontline Health and Social Care Staff have a Covid-19 Autumn Booster , however, should any Frontline Health and Social Care wish to have added protection this Winter they can request an Autumn Booster vaccine by going to one of our Health Board vaccination clinics and requesting a vaccine, or they can call the booking centre, 0300 303 1373.
Just like in previous years, we will be starting our Autumn Booster vaccinations in care homes across Gwent. All eligible patients will be invited for their Covid vaccine at either their GP, a local pharmacy or a community vaccination clinic - please ring our booking centre on 0300 303 1373 between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday to make an appointment at one of our community vaccination clinics.
