During your appointment

Your appointment may be:

  • face-to-face for initial appointment
  • by telephone - may be used for follow-up appointments

Your face-to-face appointment

Please arrive 15 minutes before your appointment.

You'll see a doctor or specialist nurse at your face-to-face appointment. We may need to carry out a physical examination during your appointment and a chaperone will be provided for you.

If this is your first appointment, it will take about 30-40 minutes. Follow-up appointments usually last 20-30 minutes.

Please be aware that should you fail to attend your appointment without notifying us in advance OR cancel two consecutive appointments, you will be discharged from the Pain Service in accordance with Health Board Policy.

Your phone appointment

If you have a phone appointment, the doctor or nurse will aim to call you at the appointment time. They may call up to 30 minutes before or after. Please have your phone close to you during this time. They will attempt to ring twice and if no answer this will be classed as a Did Not Attend.

Please note - Do not attend the hospital. You will be contacted as close as possible to the time specified above. Please make yourself available 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after your appointment time. If you have Caller ID on your telephone, the call number may show as 'Withheld/Private/03***'

After your appointment

Our PACCT Booking Team will book any follow-up appointments you need.

We’ll write to you and your GP (or the doctor who referred you) with details of what we talked about at your appointment.
