Situated on Level 2 of the Royal Gwent Hospital, our large outpatient department consists of 8 consulting rooms, 2 flexible cystoscopy rooms, our large Urodynamics room, a scanning and biopsy room and pre-assessment rooms. Here we run a range of Nurse Led Clinics such as bladder treatments, Intermittent Self Catheterisation/Dilation (ISC/ISD), Uroflow clinics, hormone injection clinics (Luteinising hormone releasing hormone or LHRH), Urinary Tract Infection clinic and functional urology clinics; as well as Consultant and Specialist Clinics such as Oncology and Paediatric Urology.
We work alongside Consultant Urologists, Uno-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialists, Functional Urology Clinical Nurse Specialists. Urology Nurse Practitioners and support staff.
You can only be referred into the service via your GP. All referrals are checked by a consultant who will also decide on the next step for your care. If the consultant thinks your symptoms need further tests, they may request these without the need for a clinic appointment first to speed up your care.
If the consultant thinks you need a clinic appointment first, they will add you to the right waiting list.
If your symptoms change or worsen while you are waiting to be seen by Urology, see your GP again so that they can reassess you and write to the department if necessary. If you feel you need immediate medical attention, attend your nearest major Accident & Emergency department, or phone 999 if you cannot get yourself there safely.
If you are an inpatient in one of our hospital you may be referred by the Consultant managing your care.
