Getting your Flu and Covid-19 Vaccination

We are seeing both Flu and Covid-19 circulating across Gwent.

Don't let yourself get sick. The Flu vaccine is safe and effective, and cannot give you flu. Protect yourself and those around you. Get yours now.

This page contains all the information you need to know about how to get Flu vaccinations and Covid-19 Autumn Booster vaccinations. Please note all Health Board staff members are eligible for a Flu vaccine and Frontline Health and Social Care Workers are also eligible for a Covid-19 Autumn Booster. 

If you haven’t done so, please can we request that you to act to protect yourself, your family and your patients by getting your vaccinations this Winter.

Drop-in at a Vaccination centre

We have now opened up our Vaccination Centres, in both Newport and Ebbw Vale for staff to walk in to have any of their Winter vaccinations, simply take your staff ID card.

Newport vaccination centre

Open Tuesday - Friday 09:30 - 16:30, Saturday 13:00 – 16:30.

Blaenau Gwent vaccination centre

Flu Champions

Flu Champions are available across multiple health board sites to offer flu vaccinations to staff. To find out who your nearest flu champions is, visit the staff intranet, go to Staff Room > Staff Flu Hub > Who is my Flu Champion.

 

Have you had your flu vaccine elsewhere?

If you’ve had your flu vaccine elsewhere such as a GP or pharmacy, please let us know by completing the online had elsewhere form. Please visit the staff intranet, go to Staff Room > Staff Flu Hub > Received elsewhere form

 

If you do not wish to have your flu vaccine, please tell us why by completing the online 'No Thank you' form. To fill this out, please visit the staff intranet, go to Staff Room > Staff Flu Hub > anonymous No thank you form

 

Who can get a Covid-19 Autumn Booster vaccine?

For autumn 2023, the JCVI is recommending a single dose of Covid-19 vaccine be offered to:

  • Frontline health and social care workers
  • Residents in a care home for older adults
  • All adults aged 65 years and over
  • People aged 6 months to 64 years in a clinical risk group, as defined in tables 3 and 4 of the COVID-19 chapter of the Green Book
  • People aged 12 to 64 years who are household contacts, as defined in the Green Book, of people with immunosuppression
  • People aged 16 to 64 years who are carers, as defined in the Green Book, and staff working in care homes for older adults

The protection offered by vaccinations will give you the best possible defence from becoming ill, and will protect the resilience of our healthcare system and stop us from becoming overwhelmed.
