The aim of the Fellowship is:
- To provide friendship and fellowship to all NHS retirees in the Gwent area
- To provide a welfare and caring role to their members
- To provide a social and friendly atmosphere in all their activities
- To give all NHS members the opportunity to meet in fellowship with other retirees and ex colleagues
The Membership is open to:
- A person who is retired, is eligible to retire or shortly to retire from employment with the NHS
- A person who is retired, is eligible to retire or shortly to retire from employment from a related health service organisation or caring profession but was employed with a private contractor
- A person who is retired, is eligible to retire or shortly to retire and has worked with the NHS during some time of their working life
- A spouse or partner of a person eligible for membership as above
- Other persons as the Branch Committee may for special reasons see fit to admit into the membership
The functions of the Fellowship:
- Provides education and social activities
- Supports and visits members during loneliness, hardship and illness
- Participate in national and regional activities
- National Benevolent Fund
The Fellowship enjoys:
- Monthly meetings on the third Monday of each month except for August at 2pm at Green Meadow Golf & Country Club, Treherbert Road, Croesyceiliog
The Monthly meetings include:
- Fellowship business
- Speaker on interesting topics
- Refreshment
- Raffles. Sales table and book exchanges
In addition there are:
- Several outings each year which include theatre trips
- Christmas Lunch
- National Competitions which include Photography twice per year and the Golf Day at St Pierre Golf & Country Club in September
- Membership benefits
- Annual quiz
- Annual conference/holiday weekend
- Opportunities to join in group activities such as country walks, skittles matches and quizzes with nearby NHS Fellowship Groups
The fee to join the NHS Retirement Fellowship per annum is £30.00, payable from March each year. Prospective members who may like to join can pay £3.00 per up to two meeting before deciding to join. Partner or spouses can join at the same fee per annum.
The Fellowship also has developed a volunteering service C.H.A.aT (Care Homes Ask & Talk) with the Health Board which aims to improve older people’s experience of nursing homes. If you are interested in joining this volunteering service, the Fellowship would like to hear from you. The Service has won many awards and recently won the top accolade for NHS Wales.
