Our acute respiratory beds are based on C4, GUH. Many of our beds are occupied by patients with chronic respiratory diseases, both chronic and acute, including:

• severe asthma
• chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• interstitial lung disease (ILD)
• lung cancer
• pneumonia
• pneumothorax
• pleural effusions

Our bed base includes 8 specific respiratory high dependency beds and are used for critically unwell patients who require close monitoring.

We also have Ward 4/4 in Nevill Hall Hospital which is used for the more stable Respiratory patients and patients are often transferred here from GUH when stable enough.
