Thinking about making changes?

Written by Rhiannon Jones – Peer Mentor in the Eating Disorder Service

When referring yourself to the Eating disorders team it can be really scary. You can feel like you don’t need it, that you don’t have a problem, that you may get judged by the team or loved ones or just generally fearful of change, losing the Eating disorder or the unknown.

I had all these thoughts and feelings myself but I can assure you it is not the case. There is still such a lot of stigma around Eating disorders and that if you don’t look or act a certain way then you can’t possibly have one but this is not true. ED’s have a way of making you doubt yourself as it doesn’t want you to seek help, but the fact that you are here, reading this is a big sign that you do.

The ED team were welcoming and non-judgemental towards me. They were with me throughout every step of my recovery and I wouldn’t be here writing this, without them. Being referred was the best thing I have ever done.
