The Role of the School Nurse is:
- To assess and meet the identified health needs of school age children through an ongoing programme of health surveillance, monitoring, referral and intervention.
- To promote the health of school age children and the wider school community, through school and community based health education programmes and activities, through direct input to school health education programmes and teaching alongside education staff in class.
- To contribute to the identification and protection of school age children at risk of abuse, to provide ongoing monitoring, support and advice to vulnerable and abused children and their families.
- Organising and delivering public health initiatives e.g. immunisation programmes in schools, through education, raising the awareness of parents, children and teaching staff
