This year Carers Rights Day takes place on 20th November and the theme is ‘Know your rights, use your rights.’ This important annual event recognises and values the incredible contribution of the UK's millions of unpaid carers, many of whom are our colleagues here in ABUHB.
Whatever your age, caring for a family member or friend who is ill, disabled, or frail can be a rewarding but also demanding role, and often, individuals may not even identify themselves as a 'carer' or be aware of the support and legal rights available to them.

Carers Rights Day is about recognising the incredible contribution of family, friends and relatives who look after someone with an illness, disability or frailty. These are unpaid carers in our community. We want to make sure they know the rights and support available to them.

If you are an unpaid carer we encourage you to speak to someone and let them know you are an unpaid carer. This may be your GP, the local authority , Health Board or a Third sector organisation. For younger carers you can inform your school, college or university. There are many resources designed to support carers.
We recognise that Unpaid carers play a vital role in our community, and we continue to work hard to value you and work with you in the important support you provide.
