Hospital Chaplain Shares Sepsis Story to Raise Awareness

It started with a urine infection. Dean felt unwell, had a high temperature, was shivering uncontrollably, and vomiting. Thinking he could sleep it off, Dean went to bed. By morning, his wife found him barely conscious.

His GP referred him straight to the Emergency Department, but Dean doesn’t recall most of that time. He was feverish, disoriented, and overwhelmed by a terrifying sense that he was going to die.

Thanks to swift medical intervention, Dean survived.

Dean, one of our hospital chaplains, is sharing his story in a bid to raise awareness of sepsis and recovery from sepsis.

Sepsis can be hard to spot. Dean’s symptoms were classic warning signs.

If you suspect sepsis, just ask: “Could it be sepsis?”. Knowing the signs could save a life.
