14th March 2025 marks a significant date in the history of Chepstow Community Hospital, as it is officially handed over to Aneurin Bevan University Health Board after being operated by a Private Finance Initiative (PFI) company since its opening.
Constructed 25 years ago, the hospital was built under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI) – a scheme that allowed the NHS to work in partnership with private equity companies as an alternative to capital funding from the NHS. Since then, the hospital building and the relevant estates and facilities services have been successfully run by the PFI company, with the onsite provision of services managed by a range of companies over the years – most recently, OCS.
As the PFI agreement came to an end on 13th March 2025, the Health Board will now assume full operational responsibility of Chepstow Community Hospital and its staff from today (Friday 14th March 2025).
Jamie Marchant, Director of Estates and Facilities at the Health Board, said:
“This is great news for the Health Board, our staff, and patients. We were very fortunate to be able to utilise this private finance initiative to build a hospital in Chepstow, which I know is at the heart of the local community.
“We’re really grateful to the PFI company, Kindra Ltd, for all of their work in overseeing the operations of the hospital over the years and to the number of companies who have provided onsite services, including OCS.
“I’m delighted that we are now able to assume operational responsibility of the site. I want to assure patients that their care will not be affected by these changes, but they should expect to see a greater continuity between our catering, domestic and other facilities services at Chepstow Community Hospital and our other hospital sites.
“I am pleased to confirm that all of the OCS staff, who will be familiar faces to staff and visitors to Chepstow Community Hospital, have opted to transition to Aneurin Bevan University Health Board with immediate effect and now are formally part of the wider Health Board family. I look forward to witnessing the continued close working of clinical teams and facilities services on the site to provide the best possible experiences for the population of Chepstow and wider Monmouthshire.”
