Maternity Services 12 Week Engagement

Background

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board is responsible for all health services across the former county of Gwent, (including the local authority areas of Newport, Caerphilly, Monmouth, Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent) plus some of the population of south Powys. The midwifery-led model of care within the Health Board focusses on supporting the woman, birthing person, and their family through kind, compassionate care, using quality evidence to inform decision making. This is intended to ensure positive pregnancy and childbirth experiences that promote wellbeing and give babies the best start in life.

Maternity services have a duty of care to ensure sufficient provision of midwifery-led services to meet demands in all areas. Choice is essential to maternity care and all women should be able to make choices about their planned place of birth.

The following has been produced to provide information about midwifery-led maternity services within the Health Board, to advise of recent issues experienced by the service and to set out proposals for how these services could be delivered in the future.  It is important that everyone who has an interest in maternity services has an opportunity to understand the proposals and to let us know their views.

To ensure patients can consider this proposal, the Health Board is working closely with Llais (formally known as Aneurin Bevan Community Health Council) and a 12-week period of public engagement has been arranged, running from Tuesday 9th May until Friday 28th July 2023.

This period of engagement has now ended.
