Community Transport Association (CTA)

Community Transport Associations can help you find community or voluntary transport providers in your county. This is useful if you are not eligible for our patient transport service and cannot use public transport.

Community transport services are local services which are tailored to the needs of the passenger. They provide transport for people who would otherwise be disadvantaged because of age, mobility, disability or location and operate a bespoke door to door service. 

Across Wales, thousands of community transport staff and volunteers are helping people to stay independent, participate in their communities and access vital public services and employment.

Help with costs

Returning home from hospital
If you have difficulty returning home, please speak to a member of staff, so they can help if possible. Ward sisters and hospital site managers can consider paying for a contracted taxi in the circumstance of no alternative transport for frail elderly patients and young vulnerable families. The final decision is that of the ward sister and hospital site manager.

Helping you plan your journey

It’s important to think early on about how you will get to and from your hospital appointment.  You should ask family/friends/carers to check whether they would be able to collect you. If you have additional luggage/items please arrange for these to be collected before you are discharged.
