St Woolos is a Community and Mental Health Hospital for the people of Newport and surrounding areas. The Casnewydd Unit consists of 8 wards.:
Penhow (Rehabilitation for Neurology and Thoracic Patients), Ruperra (Stroke Rehabilitation), Tredegar (Psychiatric unit), Gwanwyn (Orthopaedic rehabilitation), Dermatology (Day case & Outpatients), Holly - Hawthorn - Sycamore (Mental Health).
The mental health wards provide acute assessment and treatment for older adults who have functional and organic mental health problems.
They are supported by Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Community Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers, whilst having access to departments and services within St Woolos Hospital.
The Springfield Day Hospital is also located in the Casnewydd Unit. This helps patients improve their day to day life style and includes home assessments to enable them to continue to lead a normal daily life.
The Unit also houses Morgan Therapy which combines the services of:
Limited car parking is available at the hospital site, but there is 2hr parking available at St Woolos Cathedral.
Parking at St Woolos is free.

St. Woolos Hospital is situated on the western edge of Newport City Centre at the top of Stow Hill and opposite St. Woolos Cathedral

From the M4 travelling West:
Take exit 25A, turning left at the roundabout, going into Newport City centre. Continue on this road ignoring the left exit, to the next roundabout near the bus station. Bear slightly right at this roundabout to take the third exit, the A48 and continue to a set of traffic lights. Turn right. Continue past the Royal Gwent Hospital to the traffic lights and take the right exit up Belle Vue Lane. Take the next left turning and then the next right into the hospital.
Take exit 28, and follow signs for the A48 Newport around the roundabout. Continue on the A48 through the next roundabout and for just under 2 miles. At the traffic lights turn left up Belle Vue Lane. Take the next left turning and then the next right into the hospital.
The main road from the north is the A4042 from Hereford & Abergavenny. This road meets the M4 at junction 25A. Continue straight across the roundabout at this junction. Then continue as from the second point in the instructions for the M4 travelling west.
By Bus: The Newport buses 2a, 2c and R1 services call at St Woolos Hospital. For Stagecoach it's buses 50 and 151.

The Staff and Visitors Restaurant is situated across the covered walkway on level 2 from the Casnewydd unit and is open from 7:00am to 1:45pm, Mon - Fri, serving full English and Continental breakfasts. Weekends from 7:00am - 11:30am. Vending: frozen food vender, with available micorwaves; a chilled snacks machine - crisps, sandwiches, chocolates & sweets; a can machine - coke, lilt, orange; two hot drinks machines.
An afternoon Trolley service to the wards provides the local evening newspaper and sundries, morning papers also available.
The hospital chaplains (Anglican/Free Church/RC0 visit wards regularly, arrangements can be made for outside clergy and other religious leaders to visit.
An Honesty bookcase is situated outside the General Office which is located in the main entrance of the old building via the covered walkway.
