There are many health conditions which although they are not life threatening and we do not yet have a cure for them, can have a long term effect on our lives, such as Osteoarthritis of the Knee and Low Back Pain.
For the majority of long term conditions there are treatments which are effective at reducing symptoms and improving quality of life. For example, treatments such as appropriate footwear, weight management or understanding your medication, may mean you experience less joint pain, if you have Osteoarthritis of the Knee or Low Back Pain and are therefore able to do more as a result. Many of these treatments involve simple lifestyle changes, whilst others require more commitment and support. There are also many services that can provide the support you may need, however, finding the right treatment and the right service can sometimes be a little complicated.
Here at OAK we believe that people living with Osteoarthritis of the Knee and Low Back Pain, both of which can affect people long term, should have the opportunity to be involved in the decision making about which treatments and which services are best suited to them. We have created a service which provides education about Osteoarthritis of the Knee and Low Back Pain to help you understand what they are and what can be done to help you manage it. We have created some resources to help you learn about the options available to you and to show you what is available in your local community and local health service. We have been running sessions throughout Aneurin Bevan University Health Board for several years now and feedback from people attending has been very positive so we are hoping that providing this online resource may help even more people.
So, please explore the site, watch the videos, find the resources you need and please let us know what you think.
