Who are we?

Practitioner Psychologists (Clinical, Counselling and Health) are professionals who have been trained to reduce psychological distress and promote psychological well-being. They have undertaken postgraduate training and those in a physical health setting have specialised in supporting people living with health conditions or illnesses.

Psychological therapies help to understand and manage the emotional and psychological impact of living with a health condition. Psychologists will work collaboratively with people to understand difficult thoughts and feelings and develop strategies to manage these to enable living a meaningful life.

Practitioner psychologists are regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Psychologists are not medically trained, so cannot prescribe medication, or carry out physical examinations, but will work alongside a persons medical team to support them in providing person-centred care.
