The Recovery from Illness service is a Specialist service within the Paediatric Psychology Service. We work as a multidisciplinary team (MDT) to help young people manage their symptoms. The team is made up of a Clinical Psychologist, Consultant Paediatrician, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Assistant Psychologist. The service aims to help young people to manage their symptoms better, to discuss how their particular health condition has affected their school and social life and to help them feel more in control.
We see children and young people who are struggling with long covid, fatigue or other chronic health conditions. We work with the child as a whole and we develop a bespoke intervention plan to support the child and/or young person to help them cope with their difficult symptoms. We work alongside other services to provide the best possible support for the young person in being able to do the things that are important to them.
An MDT clinic appointment where the young person and their family meet with the team and discuss the challenges the young person is facing and how this is affecting their life. The young person and their family take home a bespoke intervention plan developed together by the MDT and the family.
