Inpatients

Please help us to best support our patients:

  • Ensure usual spectacles, hearing aids or other aids that are normally used day to day are available on the ward and tell us about this.
  • We promote patients to follow their daily routines where possible. Wearing day clothes helps support normal everyday habits. Please bring in loose and comfortable clothing.
  • Please provide supportive footwear that will enable patients to get around the ward safely.
  • Let us know about any specific information that you think will be helpful for us to support your relative's physiotherapy care.

It has been shown that bed rest and prolonged immobility has an impact on muscle mass, strength, bone density and overall function.

  • During hospital admission, we aim to support patients to be as independent as possible

  • You will be encouraged to get out of bed and participate in your own care and rehabilitation as much as possible, which may include walking to the toilet or practising simple exercises, or following a prescribed programme
  • Physiotherapy staff are available during core hours (08:00- 16:30) but may not always be present on the ward during visiting
  • Speak to ward managers if you need to forward any information or have a specific query
  • Department phone numbers (please be aware that telephones are not manned- please leave your name and message and we will aim to respond within 24 hours (except bank holidays and weekends)
