Spoke Services provided by Aneurin Bevan University Hospital

ABUHB provides healthcare to the Geographical area of Newport, Torfaen, Monmouthshire, Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly and South Powys.

The spoke sites provide everything other than complex and emergency vascular care and have no dedicated vascular hospital beds or vascular medical cover. 

Services provided by the ABUHB spoke sites include:

  • Outpatient clinics at Royal Gwent Hospital (Gwent Vascular Institute), Nevill Hall Hospital and Cwmbran Clinic (Canolfan Ty Newydd).
  • Varicose vein interventions undertake at Royal Gwent Hospital (Gwent Vascular Institute)
  • Preoperative assessments
  • Investigations
  • Rehabilitation will be provided through existing community hospital teams
  • Recovery care
  • Virtual Clinics via Attend Anywhere and telephone consultations
  •  

Hub Hospital – University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board

The hub receives all vascular emergencies requiring vascular or endovascular intervention, along with all vascular inpatient urgent care.  This includes all the following vascular surgical procedures:

  • Carotid endarterectomy
  • Open Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAA) repair
  • Endovascular stent grafts (e.g.EVAR)
  • Surgery for lower limb ischaemia
  • Major/minor limb amputation
  • Combined Open with Endovascular Reconstruction (COWER)

The hub hospital has dedicated vascular inpatient beds in a ward staffed by nurses with an interest in vascular surgery.
