Bills, Debt, and Benefits

For help with Energy and Fuel bills and Energy Efficiency:

  • Nest Wales – offers a range of free, impartial advice and, if you are eligible, a package of free home energy efficiency improvements such as a new boiler, central heating, insulation, solar panels or a heat pump. This can lower your energy bills and benefit your health and wellbeing.
  • HelpU Tariff - Welsh Water's HelpU tariff helps low-income households by putting a cap on the amount you have to pay for your water.
  • FuelBank Foundation – offer free advice and answer common FAQs for those seeking assistance with fuel and energy payments.
  • Temporary Meter Credit - If you've run out of gas or electricity, your energy supplier should give you temporary credit if you can't afford to top up your meter.

For Help with Finding Loans and Debt Services:

  • Step Change – offers free, impartial advice and comprehensive support on debt from trained advisors, and can help you start getting your finances back on track.
  • Smart Money Wales - Smart Money Cymru is a Community Bank offering financial services to the people of Wales, aiming to help members save or borrow money, and to be smarter with their financial decisions.
  • Money Helper – offers free financial advice on a range of topics, and also offers a benefit calculator to help you get a list of the benefits, payments or vouchers you could qualify for and how you can claim them.
  • National Debtline – offers free advice, resources, information and a webchat service – as well as a specific Cost of Living section, all to help you get on top of debt and money concerns.

For Help with Benefit Entitlement:

Check if you are claiming all your entitled benefits - The Welsh Government have launched a service, through Citizens Advice, called Claim What’s Yours which helps people claim the benefits they are entitled to. It has a free dedicated helpline: 0808 250 5700.   

The Claim What’s Yours Service is also supported by a helpline for people who need more general advice, operated by Citizens AdviceAdvicelink Cymru is a Welsh Government funded service designed to help people who are in most need of services. It is open Monday to Friday 9-5pm and you can call free 0800 702 2020
