Colposcopy Clinic Arrangements in the Health Board

As part of the reconfiguration of Gynaecology Services in relation to the opening of the Grange University Hospital (part of the Health Board’s ‘Clinical Futures’ programme), it was proposed that colposcopy clinics across the Health Board would be delivered at three local general hospital sites at Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny, Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr in Ystrad Mynach and Ysbyty Aneurin Bevan in Ebbw Vale. Nevill Hall Hospital has a newly developed specialised “in one place” Women’s Ambulatory Care Unit where the Colposcopy clinics would be held.  Women may of course attend any of these sites they choose for their care.

These arrangements were then implemented earlier than planned in 2020 as a result of significant staffing difficulties caused by the COVID pandemic. We recognised the need to ensure that the changes were not causing any difficulties in clinic access and undertook a survey of our previous Newport clinic patients at the time.  Of these, 97% of patients indicated that they were happy to attend Ysbyty Ystrad Fawr for treatment, and this has been the service arrangement ever since.

No significant issues have been brought to our attention since the pandemic, and we are now formally confirming the revised arrangements (with colposcopy clinics in Ystrad Mynach, Abergavenny and Ebbw Vale), in line with our original plans.

We continue to monitor our services to ensure that these are accessible to all.  If you have any queries or concerns regarding the arrangements for colposcopy clinics, please contact us by:-
