Who we see

We see people who are under the Aneurin Bevan pain service, who are struggling to manage their pain condition and the effects it is having on their life.

This includes people with anxiety and depression, where the major underlying factor is pain.

First contact with the psychologist will involve discussions around how your pain is affecting your life, what your difficulties are and how psychology can be involved in helping you. From this initial assessment, the team may offer follow up appointments for ongoing psychological support, including shared formulation and a treatment plan. You may be asked to complete questionnaires, which will help the psychologist to identify your needs and goals. A variety of interventions may be offered including one to one appointments either virtually or face to face, or group work such as a pain management group.
