Adult Weight Management Psychology

The Practitioner Psychologist works alongside a team of professionals to support people with managing their weight and improving their physical and emotional health.

We support people over the age of 18 who would like support with losing weight.

Our Practitioner Psychologist works with people who may be experiencing difficulties with their emotions and behaviours around weight management.

We work directly with people and their families, in addition to other health professionals such as GP's and health visitors to provide an individualised service.

If appropriate, the Practitioner Psychologist in the team may offer 1:1 or group psychological therapies. This can help to support several things such as-

  • Managing difficult thoughts, feelings and behaviours around food, weight, and physical activity
  • Improving motivation for creating positive changes for health and well-being
  • Changing the relationship with food, exercise, and weight
  • Dealing with difficult food urges
  • Improving self-esteem, confidence, and body image

Managing stress and emotional distress is important as can often be a core reason behind unhelpful eating. It is also understood that changing behaviour and mindset is crucial for sustainable weight loss.
