The initial review will involve a member of the clinical psychology team asking question about the person’s life, their stroke, their recovery progress, and any current difficulties or needs. This may take place face to face in the persons home, at their local hospital or GP (General Practitioner) surgery, or virtually via telephone or video call.
Following this initial contact, the Clinical Psychology team may offer follow up appointments. This may be for a variety of reasons but is often related to ongoing psychological support associated with their stroke and a neuropsychological assessment, to help the person understand any cognitive difficulties they may be experiencing.
Other interventions may focus on providing self-help materials and resources, so individuals are equipped with strategies to self-manage. Onward referrals and recommendations can be made, in addition to linking people with their local support structures in the community.
