Lung Cancer Support Group

Thursday 29th June 2023

The Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma patient and carer Support Group was established around 8 years ago, and is specifically for ABUHB patients and their families to attend.  The Group is for any patient with a diagnosis of lung cancer or Mesothelioma.  It doesn’t matter if you are at the beginning of your journey, going through treatment or in the follow up period, all who would like to attend is more than welcome.  They meet on the first Wednesday of each month at 11.00am – 1.00pm, in the Congress Theatres, Cwmbran.  The group also have annual summer and Christmas outings in which is enjoyed immensely by the patients, and they have numerous funny stories to tell from these outings.  Patients can attend by themselves or bring a friend or loved one, the group is open to support everyone. There is no need to book, just turn up for a coffee and biscuits.

Many of the patients have been attending for over 5 years and are great friends.  The Support Group has no agenda, and conversation is directed by the patients and how they are feeling today.  If patients want to talk about their illness, they can, if patients do not want to talk, they do not have to.  The Support Group is attended by one of the Lung Cancer Nurses, Sam Williams or Carol Davies, who can also offer advice and support on lots of different topics.
