Medical Director
Seema brings over 25 years' experience in the NHS, with 17 years as a Consultant Geriatrician, specialising in Older Person's Major Trauma in Bristol, and over 10 years in Senior Medical Leadership.
Seema trained in London at the Royal Free Medical School and moved to Bristol in her last years of postgraduate training, before taking up her consultant role at North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT).
Seema was appointed Associate Medical Director at NBT in 2015, overseeing Patient Safety and Quality Improvement. She led several patient safety programmes both locally, regionally and nationally, enabling teams to achieve high standards of care, patient experience and outcomes. She was awarded an MBE in 2018 for her services to the NHS in Patient Safety.
During the COVID Pandemic, Seema was Clinical Lead for the launch of the first COVID Vaccination site in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, on 8th December 2020. She worked with system partners to improve access to vaccination for marginalised community groups, developing her passion to improve Health Inequalities.
Seema was appointed as Executive Deputy Medical Director and Caldicott Guardian at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW) in 2022, providing senior medical leadership in Planned Care, Partnership working, Clinical Strategy and Health Equity. She clinically led the development of the Joint Clinical Strategy for UHBW and NBT. She provided clinical leadership for a new elective surgical centre for the system, which opened in August 2025. She chaired the system Elective Recovery Health Inequalities Group, improving access, experience and outcomes in communities facing inequity whilst waiting for treatment.
Seema has an interest in Leadership Development and holds an MSC with Distinction, in Leadership in Healthcare (Quality Improvement) awarded by Ashridge Executive Education and is a Generation Q Health Foundation Fellow. She delivers leadership programmes with the Royal College of Physicians, supporting the development of medical leaders of the future.
Seema is passionate about engaging teams and communities to work collaboratively, using insights and data to improve health and wellbeing and what really matters to patients.
She is a keen ultramarathon trail runner and loves exploring the Welsh Mountains.
